[ChinaGate] This is a “Family Portrait” of China’s 56 ethnic groups. Chen Haiwen, a photographer, recently lead a team of 14 photographers to create a book entitled, “Harmonious China: A Sketch of China’s 56 Ethnicities.” The team spent one year travelling all over China to complete the project. They ended up taking over 5.7 million photographs.

China bubbles and policy

ChinaBubbleFan Gang, China Central Bank Adviser, heads the National Institute of Economic Research, he said at a business conference in Hong Kong : China is among the emerging markets facing risks of property and commodity market bubbles, a “double-digit” economic growth rate would not be good for China.

China should maintain a “moderately loose” monetary policy in 2010 as currentlygovernmentstimulus effect and private investment are still weak.

Mr. Fan thinks China must continue its stimulus measures to sustain growth in coming year even as he rejected the prospect of double-dip slowdown in the expansion. The US may see a renewed slump.

Ten Tips for TEDx Speakers: THE TED COMMANDMENTS

  • Thou Shalt Not Simply Trot Out thy Usual Shtick
  • Dream big. Strive to create the best talk you have ever given. Reveal something never seen before. Do something the audience will remember forever. Share an idea that could change the world.
  • Show us the real you. Share your passions, your dreams … and also your fears. Be vulnerable. Speak of failure as well as success.
  • Make the complex plain. Don’t try to dazzle intellectually. Don’t speak in abstractions. Explain! Give examples. Tell stories. Be specific.
  • Connect with people’s emotions. Make us laugh! Make us cry!
  • Don’t flaunt your ego. Don’t boast. It’s the surest way to switch everyone off.
  • No selling from the stage! Unless we have specifically asked you to, do not talk about your company or organization. And don’t even think about pitching your products or services or asking for funding from stage.
  • Rehearse your talk in front of a trusted friend … for timing, for clarity, for impact.

    my country and my people

This book made headlines in America when it came out in the 1930's. For perhaps the first time a Chinese wrote a book in English about China and the Chinese, and the sympathetic reaction of many Americans to China's plight in the struggle against Japan made this book a bestseller. I still think it is a good book. It sets out in language that is still easy to read the Chinese mind, their history, philosophy, characteristics, etc. A good deal of the descriptions are the author's own opinions, inevitably, but it is a testament to the author's brilliant mind and perceptive eyes that much of the book is still valid today. Indeed, now that war, revolution, and communism are things of the past, the Chinese are reverting more and more to their old ways, both good and bad, and their old ways are what this book is about.
